The Tió de Nadal, or "pooping log", is probably the strangest holiday tradition I've seen. It's a Catalan tradition, in which a log propped up on two stick legs and given a face and a little red hat is supposed to be kept warm under a blanket and fed treats so it can poop out lots of presents. And to encourage the log to poop, people sing to it and hit it with sticks. Don't believe me? See for yourself!
When the log is finished pooping, it will leave a salted herring or head of garlic to show that it's finished. This tradition is mainly for the kids, who no doubt get a kick out of being able to hit a log with a stick while singing to encourage it to poop. A strange tradition, but admit it. If you had the option to do this as a kid, you'd be all over it.

Since we're on the subject of strangeness, how about a delightfully odd comic to go along with today's page? Check out Sweet Dreams are Made of Worms.
